When it comes to wall chargers for your tech, there are plenty to chose from in the market. But when it comes to value for what you are getting, it is hard to beat AUKEY. The Chinese manufacture has been making accessories for iPhone, iPad and others for years and have one of the best reputations out there.
Recently they sent me their new PA-Y10 wall charger to review. This compact wall charger sports two charging ports, one USB-C and one USB-A, along with folding AC prongs. That makes this accessory from AUKEY both highly functional but also a near must-have as you travel.
The PA-Y10 is a compact 2.52 x 2.47 x 1.14 inches in size. That’s 64 x 63 x 29 mm in new money. It weighs 4.8 ounces, or 136 grams. On the front, you have two ports. The USB-C port can output at up to 46W but, because of AUKEY’s Power Delivery 3.0 technology, it can safely downgrade that to be compatible with your other USB devices. PA-Y10 can charge everything from your MacBook to your iPad Pro to your Android phone.
The second port is a standard USB-A port which can output at up to 5V/2.1A. This port can be used to charge your iPhone or other devices with the appropriate cable. In total, the PA-Y10 has 56.5W of output between the two ports.
On the opposite side of the ports is where you will find the folding AC prongs. This makes the AUKEY PA-Y10 a great travel companion as you don’t have to worry about bending or breaking a prong while it is in your backpack or handbag. Simply fold them into the chassis of the adapter and off-you-go. Also, the PA-Y10 can be used internationally as it accepts from 100 to 240V on the input. You’ll just need a localized adapter to make it work in various countries.
From a casing perspective, the PA-Y10 is made of a high impact matte plastic, making it somewhat fingerprint resistant as well as giving a good tactile feel when you are holding it.
Usage and Performance
For this review, I used the PA-Y10 exclusively for a week for charging 2017 MacBook. The MacBook’s standard charger from Apple is a 30W power adapter so this AUKEY adapter has no problem handling charging it. Indeed, it “throttles” down to make sure it doesn’t over charge devices. That is the Power Delivery 3.0 technology at work. During my testing, I had no problem charging my MacBook without any over heating issues of my laptop or the adapter itself. Further testing with charging my MacBook and my iPhone 8 at the same time produced generally the same results. I did note that the adapter grew a bit warmer than it did with the MacBook along but, in fairness, that’s expected as I’m pumping out more energy from it.
Conclusion & Recommendation
It is quite easy for me to recommend the AUKEY PA-Y10 to readers. This power adapter can safely charge your MacBook or other USB-C device at the same time as your iPhone via its USB-A port. With up to 56.5W of total power output, it is a great alternative for those of you with a MacBook who don’t want to spend the $49 for the branded Apple charger. Not only is the PA-Y10 less at $34.99, it has two ports. Apple’s charger only has the USB-C port.
All AUKEY products come with a 45-day return policy and come with a two year warranty. You can get more information or place an order for it on the company’s Amazon store front.
