Feedly Update Brings Redesigned User Experience and AI-Driven Discovery

The news feed aggregation app Feedly has a new update out in the App Store. The new build, version 54.0.0 for those keeping score at home, brings a cleaner and more intuitive user experience with bottom navigation.  It also brings a new AI-driven discovery experience to help you find new content to add to your feed.

For those who haven’t used the app, Feedly allows you to add feeds, usually RSS feeds, from sites and have them all in one place.  You can create directories of common content that you are interested in and can check for the latest news from those sites in your feeds without having to navigate all around to find it.

Apple Store App Update Brings Siri Shortcuts Support

Apple has updated the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad, bringing support for Siri Shortcuts.  Once you have updated to the new version of the app, you will be able to configure Siri to check on product availability and on your order status without having to actually open up the Apple Store app first.

As with other Siri Shortcuts, setting them up in the Apple Store app is pretty straightforward.  For the product availability feature, open the Store app then go to the product you are wanting to find.  Next, select the Store location where you want to check.  At the bottom of the page, you will see the option to  create a Siri Shortcut to check for that product at that store.

Apple Shortcuts Update Brings Lots of Bug Fixes and New Actions

Apple has rolled out an update to the Apple Shortcuts app today.  The new build, version 2.1.2 for those keeping score at home, brings two new actions as well as a host of bug fixes and other improvements.  If you have the app installed on your iPhone or iPad, you should have the update available to you in the App Store.

From an actions perspective, Apple Shortcuts can now be configured to add a post to Tumblr.  You can also now use the Get Time Between Dates action to count the number of months between two dates.  Both are pretty simple but can be handy for some users.

Circuit of the Americas Arrives in Real Racing 3

Circuit of The Americas in Real Racing 3

Real Racing 3, the long time popular racing sim app for iOS, has a new update rolling out that brings some exciting updates.  Most notably, the Austin, Texas based Circuit of the Americas has made its debut in the game.  Fans of the game can now race COTA when they race updated content in the game.  That, right now is limited but likely will expand over time.

Circuit of the Americas hosts a wide range of real world racing events including MotoGP and Formula 1.

In addition to COTA now being in Real Racing 3, seven new cars have arrived in the racing sim along with it.  Five of the new cars are from Nissan

  • 1997 Skyline GT-R V-Spec
  • 2018 370z Nismo
  • 2018 GT-R Nismo

All of these cars are available for purchase with in-game credits (gold).

Evernote Update Brings Dark Mode to MacOS and iOS

Evernote Dark Mode for MacOS

Evernote, the popular note taking app, is the latest to be updated with a Dark Mode option for MacOS.  The update, which brings it in like with the Dark Mode of MacOS Mojave, has been a much requested feature for the Redwood City, California company to enable since the release of Mojave.

I, for one, have been waiting for this feature and went so far as to Tweet my request.  As one who spends a majority of their day in Evernote and is a fan of Dark Mode in Mojave, this is a happy day indeed.

Twitter Begins Rollout of New Section-Based Search Page

The social networking-meets micro-blogging app Twitter has begun rolling out a much improved search page within the iOS app today.  The update brings a new section-based view to the search page within the app, allowing you to quickly narrow down Tweets you are interested in seeing.

The update is a cloud-side update from Twitter so as long as you have the latest version from the App Store, you should see it already or will shortly.  Like other apps, the cloud-side update is a rolling update so not everyone will have it yet.  It is also only in the US today.
