iOS 12.1.1 is considered a maintenance release and brings virtually no new features.  The update focuses on bugs, security, and performance improvements for the platform.  The only new feature or change of note is the reworked bottom bar in FaceTime.  This now includes quick access buttons for muting a call or changing cameras.

Apple Seeds First Beta of iOS 12.1.1 to Testers

iOS 12.1 on iPhone 8

Apple has released the first beta of iOS 12.1.1 to those registered in the Apple Beta Program.  The update, which is primarily aimed at bug fixes and other performance improvements, comes just a day after iOS 12.1 was released.  That build brought Group FaceTime and new emojis to the iPhone and iPad.

As for what bugs this build is fixing, it is likely aimed at any that made their way into iOS 12.1.  Apple, like other developers, generally release builds with some bugs in them but freeze a build internally so it can go to release for all customers.  This, in turn, addresses any bugs in the release so very much consider it a maintenance update.
