Qualcomm States Every Android Flagship Phone will be 5G in 2019

At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit being hosted in Hawaii, the chip maker’s President Cristiano Amon stated that all Android manufactures will have a 5G phone in 2019.  He stated that every Android manufacture is currently working on 5G at the moment with launches happening next year.

“When we get to exactly this time of year one year from now … we will see every [handset maker] on the Android ecosystem, their flagship across all US carriers will be a 5G device,” he told CNET in an interview Tuesday at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii. “Every Android vendor is working on 5G right now.”

The news is in sharp contrast to with Apple’s plans for 5G, with most not expecting to see a compatible iPhone until at least 2020.

Apple and Qualcomm Court Date Set for April 15, 2019

After months of bitter discussions in court and public, a trial date has now been set for the royalties case between Apple and Qualcomm.  The two companies will face off in San Diego, California starting on April 15, 2019.

Apple sued Qualcomm in federal court earlier this year, claiming that the chip manufacture was “double-dipping” on royalty fees for both the chips and the sales of iPhones.  Qualcomm denied the claim and alleged that Apple owed them some $7 billion in royalties.  All indications have been that, while Qualcomm has said they are close to a resolution, the two companies remain far apart in actuality.

Apple is Gearing Up for Court Against Qualcomm

All indications are that Apple is preparing for an intense court battle with friend-now-foe Qualcomm.  In a report from Reuters, the Cupertino company is not in talks with the mobile chip maker and is preparing to go to court.

Apple sued Qualcomm in federal court earlier this year, claiming that the chip manufacture was “double-dipping” on royalty fees for both the chips and the sales of iPhones.  Qualcomm denied the claim and alleged that Apple owed them some $7 billion in royalties.
