Today at the Apple Special Event in New York, Apple officially pulled back the covers on the updated iPad Pro lineup. Sporting an 11-inch and 12.9-inch model, the redefined Pro lineup come with a Liquid Retina display, Face ID, and for the first time, have up to 1TB of storage.
The new iPad Pros are powered by the A12X Bionic SoC. An update to the A12 Bionic that is in the new iPhone XS lineup and the iPhone XR, it has the same 7 nanometer architecture with 8-cores for the CPU and 7-cores for the GPU. It also has Apple’s Neural Engine built into it.
Face ID is now a part of the iPad Pro lineup with the True Depth camera in the now 50% smaller bezel on these tablets. Face ID will authenticate no matter if you are in landscape or in portrait mode. With this, gone is the Home button, bringing the Pro lineup in line with the current iPhone lineup who have all lost the iconic button.
Also gone is the 3.5mm headphone jack as is the Lightning connector. The later is replaced with a USB-C port that allows for output to video and other USB-C accessories. There is also a new 3.5mm-to-USB-C dongle available.
Sound is dramatically improved with four speakers in each corner of the tablet and this is coupled with a three microphone array for superior audio quality.
