Apple has just dropped an update for the iWork suite of apps for both iOS and MacOS. The updates are now available in both the App Store for the respective platforms. As a reminder, iWork consists of Apple Pages (documents), Apple Numbers (spreadsheets), and Apple Keynote (presentations).
The updates for Apple Keynote and Apple Numbers on both iOS and MacOS are “stability and performance improvements”. Translation: It is a bug fix release and no new features of note. That is not the case for Apple Pages. That app has been updated with the ability to publish directly to Apple Books.
After you update your install of Apple Pages, you will find the option to “Publish to Apple Books” in the More menu (the three dot menu). This will walk you through the process of submitting your book for approval to be sold in the Apple Book Store.
The addition for this is new for iWork and for Apple Pages. To this point, publishing a book to the Apple Bookstore was done through the iBook Author app for MacOS. That app, which was updated last month, had not been updated in a year prior to that update. Further, Apple has not rebranded it from iBook Author to Book Author. This suggest that Apple may be moving book publishing away from a stand alone app to integrating it into Pages completely.
The ability to publish to Apple Books is only in Apple Pages and it is in both the iOS version as well as the MacOS version. The other iWork apps do not have the ability to publish to the Apple Books.
