After releasing a second Release Candidate build of macOS Monterey 12.5 earlier this week, Apple has now released the build to the general public for download. You can check for the update on your Mac and it will be available to all Macs running macOS Monterey.
macOS Monterey 12.5 is only bringing minor feature enhancements and is mostly focused on underlying fixes and stability. Some of the known fixes coming in this release include:
- TV app adds the option to restart a live sports game already in-progress and pause, rewind, or fast-forward
- Fixes an issue in Safari where a tab may revert back to a previous page
- Fixes a crash issue with Apple Books
12.5 is likely going to represent one of the last “dot” release of Monterey as well. With macOS Ventura already in beta testing, the focus of Apple and testers will be on that platform going forward. Still, from time-to-time, Apple could release security updates to Monterey going forward as needed for the next couple of years. Ventura will be bringing a number of new features and improvements to the Mac platform, including Stage Manager and Continuity Camera which will allow you to seamlessly use your iPhone as your webcam on your Mac.
