Apple has announced a recall on older three-prong AC wall adapters over the small risk of an electrical shock when using them. The recall is on adapter used primarily in Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom and were sold with Macs and some iPad models between 2003-2010. The adapter was also sold in the World Travel Adapter Kit. The company reported that they are aware of six incidents where an electric shock occurred.
The adapter impacted is all white including the area where you slide it into your Apple wall charger for your Mac or iPad. You can see an image of it below.
If you have one of these adapters, you are encouraged to visit the recall site to get details on how to have it replaced free of charge.
If you are unsure if you are impacted, the new adapter looks like the image below. Note the dimples on the side of the adapter as well as the grey insert on the inside of it. If you have this one, you are not impacted by this recall.
Apple is voluntarily issuing this recall and it was not mandated by a government or safety agency worldwide.
Finally, this recall does not impact any USB power adapters.
