As part of a series or releases today, Apple has made tvOS 15.6 available to the public today. It follows on the heals of iOS and iPadOS 15.6, watchOS 8.7, and macOS Monterey 12.5. being released earlier in the day. The update is available now and can be downloaded to your Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K through Settings on the device.
The release notes for tvOS 15.6 are classically Apple vague. The Cupertino company only indicated that the update brings “general performance and stability improvements.” What exactly those improvements are is unknown but what is know is that there are no new features or functionality in this release. Regardless, the update is very small and took less than 10 minutes to complete on my latest generation Apple TV 4K.
As has been the case with other 15.6 releases across the Apple ecosystem today, this is likely the last significant build that will happen in the tvOS 15 train. Development and beta testing of tvOS 16 is already underway and that release will happen later this fall. tvOS 16 will bring a number of user experience improvements including getter gaming support. tvOS 16 will also bring the device up to supporting the Home Automation standard being adopted by companies including Apple and Google.
Apple has not released many details and does not have a details page for tvOS 16 and it hardly receive a mention in the latest WWDC held in June.
