In a new report at 9to5Mac, Apple is reportedly working on a new, combined app for Find My iPhone and Find My Friends. The new app would likely be available in iOS 13 and be built on the Marzipan platform. That means the new app would be available on both iOS and macOS.
A key new feature that is rumored to be in this new combined app is a “find network” feature. This would allow Apple devices to be tracked when they are not connected to a WiFi or mobile network. This in theory will dramatically improve the ability to find a lost or stolen device.
As for the Find My Friends element of this new app, it appears that the same functionality that is in that app today would be there in this new combined app. The report does not suggest any new features coming to it.
If the report from 9to5Mac is accurate – and they are pretty solid on getting it right – then we could see this new app in just a couple of months. WWDC is in June and Apple is expected to debut iOS 13 at that event. If this app is part of that build, we should see at least a preview of it in San Jose in June.
