With the Apple Event just a little over 24 hours away, leaks about what we can expect to see continue to happen. The latest comes from well respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has indicated that the new Apple Watch Series 4 will come with a ceramic back and will support Electrocardiogram sensors.
For those who may not be familiar, an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a diagnostic tool that is routinely used to assess the electrical and muscular functions of the heart. Normally this requires anywhere from 3 to 10 sensors on the body so it is unclear how exactly Apple will build this into the Apple Watch. If it is true, we will find out tomorrow how they did it.
Having the ability to do a ECG from the Watch would be a big step forward for the device. The Apple Watch has already been responsible for indicating many health issues over the past few years with its impressive array of sensors in the Series 3. Adding ECG to the Series 4 would in many ways put the Apple Watch miles ahead of other smart watches and health tracking devices.
As for the ceramic back, this is something that only the GPS version of the Series 3 had as an option. It makes sense that all of the Series 4 would have ceramic backs as that would facilitate the ECG functionality. In other words, these leaks will either both prove to be true or both prove to be false.
