Apple Watch Series 7 Hit With Production Challenges That Could Delay its Release

Production challenges and satisfaction with build quality appear to be real for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7. According to reports both from Bloomberg and Nikkei Asia, the challenges have come down to the complicated design of the new Series 7.

Manufacturers of Apple Watch 7, as the device is expected to be called, began small-scale production last week but encountered critical challenges in reaching satisfactory production performance, multiple people familiar with the situation said.

Three sources said the current disappointing production quality could be attributed to the complexity of design, which is significantly different from that of previous generations of the watch, and the assemblers found issues when putting together electronics modules, components and displays.

As a result, the production of the new watch has been temporarily halted as Apple and its suppliers try to sort out the problems and further certify the designs before going into mass production, four people said.

The report notes that the new Series 7 will have new features including blood pressure measurement and the components to support the new feature as well as water resistance are the main crux of the problem. Apple has reportedly asked some component suppliers to delay shipments of parts to assemblers.

Late yesterday,

new report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg corroborates Nikkei’s report from earlier today. According to the new report, production issues related to the redesign could lead to delays in the Apple Watch Series 7 release date.

Apple Inc.’s upcoming smartwatch is suffering production snags as manufacturers adjust to a new design, likely leading to supply constraints or shipment delays, according to a person familiar with the situation.

All of this added up suggests that the next generation Apple Watch will be delayed in its availability. The watch is expected to be announced with the new iPhone 13 but it may not be shipping to customers for several weeks or months to come.
