AppleCare+, the supplemental coverage that you can buy to extend your iPhone’s warranty and protect it against accidental damage, is being further expanded. Apple has updated the AppleCare+ site and has added a new Theft and Loss protection option for the service.
Under the new program, you are covered by everything normal AppleCare+ covers, plus the ability to report up to twice that your iPhone has been lost or stolen. In order to have the coverage, Find My iPhone must be enabled on your phone in addition to the cost of the coverage.
That cost is more than normal AppleCare+ but it varies on how much more by device. For example, if you get normal AppleCare+ on an iPhone 8, it is $149. Add the theft and loss protection and it goes up to $199. On the iPhone 8 Plus, normal coverage is $149 but adding theft and loss protection jumps it up to $249.
Under the plan, there are set replacement costs depending on the iPhone that you have covered. You can report up to two incidents on the coverage.
- iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 replacements are $199
- iPhone 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and Xr are $229
- iPhone X, Xs, Xs Max are $269
Obviously these replacement costs are far less than what it could cost to replace your phone outright and, when it comes to damage, the repair costs are far less too. Screen damage costs just $29 to get repaired while other damage is $99. Again, a low price compared to walking into an Apple Store to get your iPhone repaired without it.
