Developers Widely Support iOS 16 Lock Screen Widgets

iOS 16 was released on Monday, bringing many updates and improvements. The most visible, and one of the most touted by Apple, is the new Lock Screen. In iOS 16, the Lock Screen is customizable and can now support widgets. Seemingly, developers of applications for iOS have fully embraced this new feature in their apps.

Since the release of iOS 16, dozens of big and small developers have released updates to their apps to support widgets on the Lock Screen. This has included developers like Google with updates to Google Maps, OpenTable, and even Facebook. Personally, two of my favorite apps have joined the list of those with widgets: Parcel and Flighty.

Parcel is an excellent app for managing your deliveries from a wide range of carriers globally. I’ve used this app for years and highly recommend it. With its latest update, released on Monday, you can now have a widget to let you know when your next shipment will arrive on your Lock Screen.

Parcel is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is a free download and $4.99/year for the Premium tier of the app, allowing you to track an unlimited number of packages.

Flightly, I would argue, is one of the best travel apps available for your iPhone. It keeps track of all your flights and friends’ flights in a beautiful experience. Further, it integrates with your calendar and automatically updates it when flights are delayed. Its latest update, released Tuesday, brings widgets that give you a countdown to your next flight.

Flighty is a free download and available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is a free download with a $5.99/month or $49.99/year plan that allows for the calendar integration mentioned above.

If you have upgraded your iPhone to iOS 16, I will encourage you to check your favorite apps and see if they have released an update to support these new widgets. Most developers are indicating their support in their release notes.
