As most readers know, it is easy to turn on your iPhone’s flash and have it act as a flashlight. But did you know that you can adjust the strength of that flashlight? This, I have discovered through informal surveys of friends and family, is not-so well known.
Being able to adjust that flashlight strength though can be quite handy. Sometimes you need it brighter, sometimes you need it not-so bright, depending on your situation. Fortunately Apple has made it very easy to adjust that strength and you can do it all with one finger.
First, open up Control Center on your iPhone. For those that don’t recall, that is just a swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen on your iPhone. Once you have it open, you will see the flashlight icon. If you tap it, it will turn on your flashlight. Again, nothing really new here if you have been using your iPhone for a while.
Where the fun comes in is if you press-and-hold the flashlight button instead of just pressing it. This opens up a new screen with a vertical slider pill. Slide up with your finger, your flashlight gets brighter. Slide down, it gets dimmer.
You can even slide it all the way down and turn it off if you wanted to do so. That’s it! Nothing more magical than that but it is a buried feature that I suspect a lot of people don’t know is there or don’t remember is there on their iPhone.
