Well that didn’t take long! Nearly 24 hours to the minute after iOS 12 was released to the general public yesterday, Apple has seeded the first beta of iOS 12.1 to developers today. In fact, Apple seeded the first beta of tvOS 12.1 and WatchOS 5.1 today too.
For iOS 12.1, the big news is that Group FaceTime has returned to the beta program. The feature was dropped after the seventh beta of iOS 12 and Apple said at the time that they plan on getting it out before the end of the year. With this release date of the first beta, that target seems realistic.
Developers and Beta testers will have nearly a full quarter of testing they can do on this build, which of course will be updated as improvements are made and bugs are found. Right now, Apple is reporting no known issues. That said, the hint is in the name: It’s beta software so if you decide to go with it, just be cautious and have a backup of your phone.
Speaking of which, there are no restore images in this beta for the iPhone XS or the XS Max. If you have one of these new flagship phone coming to you this week or planning on buying one, you may want to hold off until Beta 2.
For those who are brave, enjoy the new beta and do leave a comment to let me know how it is working for you.
