iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 Now Generally Available

Just five days after releasing the second Release Candidate for the build, Apple has released iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 and they are generally available. You can check your iPhone or iPad for the update and install it. The update comes after just over a month of testing by both developers in the Apple Developer Program as well as those with enrolled devices in the public Apple Beta Program.

The GA-build of 15.6 has the same build number as the Release Candidate. Therefore, if you have a device that is running the Release Candidate, you will not see an update.

According to Apple, the release will have the following enhancements and fixes:

iOS 15.6 includes enhancements, bug fixes and security updates.

  • TV app adds the option to restart a live sports game already in-progress and pause, rewind, or fast-forward
  • Fixes an issue where Settings may continue to display that device storage is full even if it is available
  • Fixes an issue that may cause braille devices to slow down or stop responding when navigating text in Mail
  • Fixes an issue in Safari where a tab may revert back to a previous page

The upgrade is available to any iPhone or iPad that is running iOS or iPadOS 15 respectively.

15.6 will represent one of the final releases in the iOS 15 train. As readers know, iOS 16 is already out in beta for both Apple Developers and the Apple Beta Program and has already reached its third beta release (for Developers). While additional minor updates could come to the iOS 15 train, don’t expect much as Apple’s full attention will likely be turning to iOS 16 and iOS 16.1 from here on out.
