iOS 16.1 Beta 1 Now Available to Developers

Just two days after the release of iOS 16 to the world, Apple has turned its attention to its next release: iOS 16.1. The first beta of 16.1 has been released to members of the Apple Developer community, allowing them to test the next release of the iOS platform. iOS 16.1 is expected to be released in October. The build number is 20B5045d, and Apple has also released new download profiles for the beta that developers will need to install to receive the latest beta.

16.1 is expected to bring the normal smattering of bug fixes that is on par with other “dot” releases. However, there are a multitude of features that Apple has not released as part of iOS 16 that are expected in the coming months. These include:

  • Clean Energy Charging
  • iCloud Shared Photo Library
  • Live Activities and the Live Activities API
  • Matter Support for Smart Home connectivity

Which, if any, of these features are in this latest beta has not been determined (it is download to my beta iPhone 11 Pro as I write this article).

Finally, this first beta of 16.1 will likely hit those in the Apple Beta Program later today or tomorrow. As a reminder, iPhone users are encouraged not to download beta builds of iOS to their primary iPhone as there could be bugs or issues that slow down or make productivity difficult.
