While we still do not have a full picture of what Apple will be announcing next week at their event on October 30, rumors all-but confirm that a new iPad Pro lineup is going to be announced. Part of those rumors has been that these new iPads will support Face ID and that, it seems, has been confirmed.
9to5Mac‘s Guilherme Rambo has posted on Twitter a code snippet from the latest beta of iOS 12.1. In that snippet, Face ID on iPads was clearly called out, working in both portrait and landscape mode.

This is great digging by Mr. Rambo indeed and makes the prospect of new iPads next week even more intriguing.
As readers likely know, Face ID has only been available on the iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max to this point. The question of if the iPad lineup would see the facial authentication feature has long been asked and if it would work in both portrait and landscape. This code snippet seems to confirm all of that.
- Apple is expected to launch an 11″ and 12.9″ iPad Pro at the event on Tuesday along with a refresh of several of the Mac devices.
