Multiple sources are reporting that the name of the upcoming 6.5″ iPhone will be named the iPhone Xs Max. The source reported this to 9to5Mac earlier today. If it is indeed the case, the naming convention makes a fair amount of sense.
From previous leaks, it is almost a lock that the two OLED flagship iPhones will sport the “Xs” moniker. Differentiating the two with the term “Max” for the larger phone fits while the LED, mid-sized phone will likely retain the iPhone number convention, likely the iPhone 9.
That said, the iPhone 9 (assuming that it the name) is expected to pick up Face ID and drop the Home button in favor of the design we were first introduced to this year with the iPhone X. These three new iPhones will also launch with iOS 12 and should start shipping on or around September 19 if history is any indicator to go by on it.
These three new iPhones are expected to be launched next week on September 12th at the Steve Jobs Theater at the Apple campus. In addition to the new iPhones, the Apple Watch Series 4 is expected to be launched as well as iOS 12 and Mac OS Mojave. We will also likely see the next generation of AirPods in amongst the announcements.
It is certainly going to be an exciting event.
