The big day is finally here! Today is “upgrade” day for Apple fans with the Cupertino company releasing iOS 12, WatchOS 5, tvOS 12, and HomePodOS 12 later this morning. It is going to be a busy day but it is always fun on these big release days.
So when exactly will we see all these software updates? Sometime around 10:00 am Pacific. That translates to 1:00 pm Eastern here in the United States, and 6:00 pm in London.
Here are some further time break downs:
- Berlin 7:00 pm
- Moscow: 8:00 pm
- Beijing: 1:00 am on September 13th
- Tokyo: 2:00 am on September 13th
- Sydney 3:00 am on September 13th
International times could slip and vary slightly as Apple updates their servers globally with the latest builds but these should be roughly accurate.
When it comes to iOS 12, the update is going to be available for a significant swath of the iPhone lineup the past few years. For iPhone perspective, every device from the iPhone 5s and later will get updated. For iPad, it is from the iPad Air all the way through to the iPad Pro, the iPad mini 2 and higher, and on the iPod 6th generation.
For WatchOS 5, that update will be available for Series 1, 2, and 3 and it will ship on the new Series 4.
Keep in mind, especially if you are new to iPhone and Apple Watch, that when the update is released, downloads from Apple’s servers will be slow. It could take several hours before you actually get the update downloaded. This is always the case and while Apple has done a good job of beefing things up in their data center for these releases, they still tend to be slow. If you are not in a rush, here in the US, it may be better to wait until later this evening to try to download the updates.
