Apple Releases macOS Ventura 13.5.2 Update

Apple has released an update to macOS Ventura today. The new version, 13.5.2, is available now on all eligible Macs and addresses both bugs and offers security fixes to the platform. Readers are encouraged to upgrade to these latest versions.

According to Apple’s release notes, the following is addressed in this update:

ImageIO

  • Available for: macOS Ventura
  • Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
  • Description: A buffer overflow issue was addressed with improved memory handling.
  • CVE-2023-41064: The Citizen Lab at The University of Torontoʼs Munk School

Although macOS Sonoma is due in a matter of days or weeks, that doesn’t mean Apple has stopped its work on Ventura, particularly regarding critical bug fixes and security patches. Those patches will continue for at least another couple of years for users who do not upgrade to Sonoma.

Go to Settings>General>Software Update on your Mac to get the update. As always, these updates are free of charge from Apple.

The release of this update from Apple comes on the same day the company released updates to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and WatchOS 9. Those updates also addressed the ImageIO bug, as well as other security fixes.
